Lean angle and corners

Count your corners. See your lean.

GOEZ counts the real corners on every ride and estimates how far you leaned — left and right. No extra sensor, no mount. Just ride.

How it's calculated

Calculated from speed and turning.

How far a bike leans in a steady corner depends on two things: speed and how tightly you turn. GOEZ reads both from your phone's GPS — speed directly, and turn rate from how quickly your heading changes. From those, it estimates your lean angle.

No extra hardware needed. A clear GPS signal gives the best results.

Built-in rules keep the numbers clean:

  • Speeds below about 14 km/h (9 mph) are ignored.
  • Readings above 55° are filtered out as GPS noise.
  • Max lean is the 95th percentile of your ride, so one bad GPS fix can't set your record.
  • Left and right are calculated separately, so you can compare both sides.
Corner counter

Real corners, not gentle bends.

A corner counts when you keep turning the same way at 8° per second or more for at least 1.5 seconds.

Lane changes and long motorway bends don't count, so a fast highway run shows few corners while a mountain road racks them up. An S-bend counts as two.

Corner count makes roads easy to compare: two 40 km routes can be very different rides. Suggested routes show their corner count too, so you know what's ahead.

Max lean, left and right

Your max lean for each side, in the ride's corner analysis.

35°+Pro

Lean spread

A chart in 5° bands, from under 10° to over 35°. See where most of your ride sat and how often you went past 35°.

Good to know

Made for comparing your rides.

As the app puts it: "Lean estimate is not a sensor reading — it comes from speed and heading change."

Body position and tyre profile change how far the bike leans, and GPS can't see either. Very short, sharp corners and weak signal — tunnels, tall buildings, dense forest — make the estimate less reliable.

Use it to compare your own rides on similar roads.

Ride for the road, not the number. Public roads aren't a track, and our Community Guidelines don't allow content that glorifies dangerous riding.

FAQ

Lean angle questions

How accurate is the lean angle?

It's an estimate from GPS speed and heading change, not a sensor reading. Use it to compare your own rides. Weak signal and very tight corners make it less reliable.

Do I need a mount or an extra sensor?

No. The estimate uses GPS only, so you don't need a mount or extra hardware.

Is lean angle free?

Lean angle comes with GOEZ PRO: live max lean, max lean per ride, left and right, and the lean spread chart. Corner count is free on every plan.

Why is my corner count low on a fast road?

A corner counts when you keep turning the same way at 8° per second or more for at least 1.5 seconds. Long, gentle bends don't reach that.
