The Kaş to Kalkan motorcycle route is about 27 km of the D400 coast road in Antalya province, on Turkey's Mediterranean coast. It winds along cliffs above the sea with around 40 corners and is rated medium. At a relaxed pace it takes about 35 minutes, though the views make most riders stop.
Distance and corner count are approximate; use an up-to-date map for navigation.
Where is the Kaş to Kalkan route?
Kaş and Kalkan are neighbouring seaside towns on the Lycian coast in the south-west of Antalya province. They are popular holiday bases, and the D400 coast road links them. Antalya and Dalaman airports are the usual gateways for visitors to this part of the coast.
If you're touring the Mediterranean coast, this stretch is a highlight rather than a detour. Ride it in both directions — the view changes completely. Kaputaş beach, a famous cove between the two towns, is a natural stop. For a mountain day to contrast with the coast, head north-west to the Ödemiş to Bozdağ climb near İzmir.
What's the road like?
The road is wider than the mountain routes in this list, but it's constantly curving as it follows the shape of the cliffs. Around 40 corners in 27 km keeps you busy, and the drop to the sea on the coast side keeps you honest.
It's rated medium: the corners aren't extreme, but there's real traffic — holiday cars, coaches and scooters — and plenty of people slowing down to look at the view. Ride smoothly, leave space, and save the sightseeing for the lay-bys.
When to go
Spring and autumn are the best times to ride the Lycian coast: warm days, clearer roads and comfortable temperatures in full gear. Midsummer is very hot and the road is at its busiest with holiday traffic.
If you ride in summer, go early in the morning, carry water and take breaks in the shade. Low sun at the start and end of the day can be dazzling on this coast, so plan around it.
Ride safe
- Expect cars stopping or pulling out at viewpoints and beach entrances without warning.
- Watch for coaches taking up more than their lane on tighter corners.
- Sand and dust collect at the road edge near beaches — keep to the clean line.
- Heat is a real risk in summer: drink water and stop before you feel tired.
